Grooming

Picture
Depending on your Doodles coat, you will need different equipment and products.

We use only Best shot products for washing & conditioning on all our coats. We have been using it for almost 12 years and see no need for any other brand. It is especially good for the non-shed coats to keep them silky and mat free.
We purchase the following at Amazon:
  • Bestshot Shampoo
  • Bestshot conditioning spray
These are also available in gallon size for a very fair price. Dilute the shampoo & conditioner with water to make them easier to absorb.

When the snow hits, those with the non-shed coats tend to drag in snow balls! We have found that if you use Cowboy Magic de-tangeler & shine on their legs, it will tend to repel a lot of this. Be warned however....it can cause your floors to be a bit slippery, and could possibly cause you to slip! This can also be found in many feed stores or can be ordered by them.

DIY Grooming

For those of you brave souls that want to attempt grooming your own Doodle, there are excellent videos entitled "Grooming Sully" on YouTube. Sully is a Goldendoodle, but the coats & methods of coat care are the same. The first one starts out with proper brushing to get down to the skin and keep them mat-free.

Brushing

Slicker Brush
Wide ones are good for the dogs over-all coat. The narrow ones are great for working on mats.
We have discovered the Chris Christensen Long Pin Slicker Brush... hands down it is the best brush out there and worth every penny

Dematter
The razors cut through the matts, salvaging some of the hair. We purchase ours from PetEdge
Pin Brushes
These are great to keep by the front door to quickly brush off dried grass, leaves & other things your dogs will drag in the house
